Bloodbeast Conversion – ‘Deathtrap Dungeon’ Fighting Fantasy Monster

I’ve been running one of my players through Ian Livingstone’s infamous ‘Deathtrap Dungeon’, live converting it to AGE as we go. My player is level 11.

One of the standout creatures (for me) is the Bloodbeast. I wanted to tackle a conversion of that, as it is something that can be killed easily if you are careful enough, but is terribly dangerous if you get too close for too long. I saw this as an opportunity to create a monster with a difference – one that causes no direct damage at all! Its spines have a small chance of harming you if you miss an attack, and its tongue simply grips you and pulls you towards the acidic slime.

The "eyes" have it.

The “eyes” have it.

Warlock of Firetop Mountain – Fighting Fantasy For AGE

I have recently run ‘The Warlock of Firetop Mountain’ as an AGE conversion.

The key method of success in converting a solo choose your own adventure book into a group type RPG is twofold:
First, I was lucky enough to find a map containing the dungeon along with its page numbers in place. This meant that I could make the book more malleable than it would normally be, backtracking and such. I always know how to move the players on if it comes to it.
The next thing I needed to do was find a list online, where all the creature encounters of the mountain are revealed. I simply had to go through that list and make some quick notes on how I would convert them if they were to happen. Most were simple references to GM books and other AGE files, but a couple did need whole new stat sheets made up – namely the vampire and Zagor himself.

These are simply my notes for my use. You may not agree with some of my decisions on conversion type, and by all means you should change it where you see fit. I just like the idea of sharing in case it helps.

Here’s the links you should need.

Fighting Fantasy To Age Conversion: Blacksand

The time came at last where I ran Blacksand for the group. Blacksand is another Fighting Fantasy book similar to Dungeoneer, in that it was made specifically for players to run for a group, as opposed to the usual FF staple of single player choose your own adventure style.

I have included my conversion notes, so hopefully they will be of some help to you.
Please note that you will also need a copy of ‘Blacksand’ to of course run it.

U.S. Blacksand

U.K. Blacksand

Here’s the conversion file. Best of luck!

Fighting Fantasy Conversion ‘Dungeoneer’ Part 2

I covered the hunt for Xorton Throg as found in the book ‘Dungeoneer’ by the always eminent Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone. The link for part 1 – https://dragonageoracle.wordpress.com/2013/08/14/fighting-fantasy-to-age-conversion-dungeoneer-part-1/

But now I’ve managed to do away with the handwritten copy pages (yeah, sorry about that, but they were GM notes), and I have gotten Part 2 down on a nice file for you instead.

You can access it here – https://docs.google.com/document/d/1y18VG3pZ-6P8hAUGcVzMjYn7f8SvGSbmYTaNNt8_qGg/edit

With the incredible lack of material around for Dragon Age, every little helps. ‘Blacksand’ too will be forthcoming.

The following is a Fighting Fantasy Dungeoneer book conversion into the Age RPG system.

These are my rough paper notes from my personal conversion use. I decided to scan them to make them available to anyone interested.

Fighting Fantasy Conversion To Dragon Age

This is a post pointing you in the direction of the video that explains what exactly I’ve done here.

I’ve taken the first adventure ‘The Wishing Well’ from Steve Jackson’s Fighting Fantasy book (a retro title aimed at getting you to GM a group as opposed to the usual solo play books they wrote!) and converted this for usage in Dragon Age for my group.

Here’s a video setting the whole thing up and explaining what this is about –

What now follows is the actual session Vidcast where I discuss how the session worked out for my group.
